Regent International School Dubai Review: British Curriculum, Community & Facilities

Regent International School Dubai (RIS) is a co-educational British-curriculum school located in the Greens community of Dubai. Founded by Fortes Education in 1993, the school started as a small campus in Jumeirah and later moved to its current modern facilities in The Greens (Al Barsha South) in the mid-2000s. Today Regent serves students from FS1 through Year 13, combining rigorous academics with a Positive Education ethos that emphasizes wellbeing and character development. The school is recognized for its quality: it holds an “Outstanding” rating from the British School Overseas inspection and a “Very Good” KHDA rating (2023–24). In this review we cover Regent’s curriculum, student community and facilities in a friendly, professional style to help parents make an informed choice.

Overview

Regent International School opened its current Greens campus in 2004 and was originally a primary-only school. In 2019 it expanded to include secondary grades (Years 7–11) and is now adding a sixth form. The school serves about 1,400 students aged 3–18, drawn from around 80 nationalities. This co-educational community is very diverse (the largest groups are Indian and British pupils) and many students speak English as an additional language. Regent operates on a standard UAE September–July calendar and follows the British scheme of assessment. It is managed by Fortes Education (which runs several Dubai schools) and led by Principal David Williams. All these factors combine to make Regent a stable, well-organized school community.

Curriculum & Academics

Regent follows a full British curriculum. In the early years and primary grades students follow the UK Early Years framework and Key Stage 1–3 (building strong foundations in English, math and science). By Years 10–11 (Key Stage 4) pupils work towards IGCSE/GCSE exams (Regent even offers some vocational BTEC courses at this level). Students in Years 12–13 then pursue A-Level courses. Core subjects include English, mathematics and science, alongside mandatory Arabic and UAE Social Studies. Beyond the core, Regent offers modern courses such as coding, robotics and design, and fosters a STEAM and project-based learning approach. The school is also known as a leader in Positive Education, integrating character and wellbeing into its program.

Student Body & School Life

Regent’s student body is very international: roughly 1,400 pupils represent over 80 nationalities (the largest groups are Indian and British), creating a vibrant global atmosphere. Classes are modest in size (around 20–25 students) so teachers can give each child individual attention. Regent is also very inclusive: roughly 84 students receive special needs support, and about 14% are learning English as an additional language. Pastoral care is a priority – older students mentor younger ones, and the school’s Positive Education program ensures every child’s wellbeing and character development are nurtured. Outside the classroom, a wide range of extracurricular clubs (sports, arts, STEM activities, etc.) means every child can explore their interests.

Facilities

Regent’s campus is well-equipped for both study and play. Academic resources include two libraries (junior and senior) and a STEAM Centre for technology and innovation. The campus also has multiple science laboratories, a design & technology workshop, a food technology lab and dedicated music rooms. Outdoor and sports facilities are extensive: there are large multi-purpose sports halls and courts (for basketball, volleyball, etc.) and two heated swimming pools. Shaded playgrounds and play areas are available for younger children.

Conclusion

In summary, Regent International School offers a well-rounded British education in a friendly, inclusive setting. The school’s strong KHDA score (“Very Good” in 2023-24) and “Outstanding” British accreditation underline its quality. Regent’s emphasis on STEAM learning, the arts and student wellbeing helps it stand out among British schools in The Greens. For parents comparing Dubai school ratings and reviews, Regent is a top contender – see its profile on the Lechool Dubai schools directory for more details and parent feedback.
