The Winchester School (TWN) in Jebel Ali, one of the biggest GEMS UK curriculum schools with close to 3,800 students, has become a benchmark in many ways, not only for GEMS but also for other operators of inexpensive schools.

The school is notable for its well-managed development, academic accomplishments, and significantly improved KHDA inspection grade.

The Winchester School is notable for advancing up the ranks in a way that is unique among Dubai schools.

From 2015-16 through 2019-20, the school has been rated "very good," just short of the top level of "outstanding."

The 17-year-old school has 224 teachers and 45 teaching assistants, all of whom are "highly qualified and adequately experienced," according to the KHDA, Dubai's education regulator.

curriculum

Students are entered for external Cambridge, UK IGCSE, AS, and A-Level examinations in the upper school levels.

Pupils at the Foundation Stage learn primarily through play, with the objective of acquiring a wide range of abilities centered on the EYFS curriculum's six key themes.

Students begin their two-year study plans for IGCSE examinations at Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11), with Core Topics of English and Mathematics, as well as a variety of school-assessed subjects such as Islamic Education (PSHCEE), Moral Education, Physical Education, and UAE Social Studies (for Year 10 only).

Students who want to pursue a more vocational and technical option at The Winchester can do so through the BTEC qualification.

The BTEC National Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science, Business Studies, and Information Technology is available at the Winchester School.

The school is situated in The Gardens, Jebel Ali Village, behind the Ibn Battuta Mall.

The school has adequate facilities (but not to the level of GEMS' top-tier schools, which is to be expected considering the prices).

These feature well-equipped classrooms, a multi-purpose theater, a range of sports fields for specialized learning in various outdoor games, music and art and craft rooms, and two well-stocked libraries. The vast, cutting-edge, air-conditioned multi-purpose auditorium is an excellent indoor facility for students to play a variety of indoor games as well as develop their public speaking and theatrical abilities throughout the year.

The school has a range of sports fields in addition to a huge multi-purpose theater; the outdoor and indoor sports fields have just been rebuilt with new sports flooring.

Art, craft, and music rooms are well-equipped to support brilliant young artists and musicians of all ages while encouraging everyone to develop these talents.

Student-led, innovative art cafes are available in primary and secondary schools to allow for free artistic expression and development.

Well-equipped science laboratories are available for the scientifically minded to encourage the practical application of science subjects in both the primary and secondary sections, while six computer laboratories with multi-media facilities support the teaching of ICT, which is a compulsory component of the curriculum up to Year 9.

The school also boasts two STEAM cafes, one in primary and one in secondary, that are outfitted with cutting-edge technology such as LEGO, robotics, 3D printers, and doodlers.

STEAM is a fundamental element of the school's curriculum, with dedicated sessions in the STEAM café from Year 4 to Year 9, as well as STEAM integration in most disciplines across all year groups.
